An Act of Commitment

These prayers together illustrate the sort of commitment that becoming a
Christian involves. They could be used by you as they stand or as a basis
for your own commitment. The separate sections could also be used as
a means of re-commitment as appropriate. Though this is a matter between
you and God it is very helpful to have someone to go through this with you.
If you are thinking of making a commitment to Christ, or you want to know
more, please ask. There are plenty of people in the church who would be
willing to help.

A prayer of repentance ....

Heavenly Father, I thank you for your love for me.
I have sinned against you and against others,
in what I have thought, and said and done.
I have rebelled against you and gone my own way.
I am sorry and ashamed and I ask for your forgiveness.
Please receive me as I turn away from my own selfish
desires and turn towards you.

A confession of faith ....

Father God, take my faith and trust in you, which I give to
you now and make it stronger.
I believe and trust in your Son, Jesus Christ as the one who
has won back mankind to you.
I believe and trust in the Holy Spirit who gives life to all God's people.
Lord help my faith to grow.

A promise to serve ....

Lord, I give my life to you today.
I will follow you with my whole heart.
I will serve you faithfully as a member of your church.

A prayer for the Spirit ....

Come Lord now and live in my life.
Fill me with your Holy Spirit, strengthen me for your service,
empower me with your love.
